Pokemon Go is here to stay. Seriously.
And it will have an effect on our jobs. Yes, Pokemon Go, this stupid little game is wreaking havoc on lives across the country and the world. Whether you like it or not, it’s a reality. So we can be good firefighters and choose to learn what it is and how it will affect us, or bury our head in the sand and try to ignore it.
I briefly try to explain what it is in this episode, however this video below gives an awesome description of Pokemon Go in 400 words or less. So have a watch:
Seriously? People are playing this? Yup!
It’s beyond viral, and kids to adults everywhere are playing this thing. It’s addictive, fun, and gets you moving. I tried it out briefly and can completely see the immersion. Already companies have started embracing it by offering pedal tours (you know, those bars powered by patrons pedaling) in our area to chase Pokemon.
Here’s my advice. Familiarize yourself with it. Find out if your fire station is a site so you know what to expect and where to expect them. Then come up with a plan on how to deal with it. There’s a lot of uncertainty with this game and we’re just seeing the tip of the iceberg. Already, dead bodies have been found, car accidents have been initiated, and robberies committed because of this game.
Technology is a huge part of our lives and this is yet another reason why the fire service needs to embrace it in order to be fully prepared.
How is your department embracing Pokemon Go?
